7-Zip Tutorial #4 – How to Set 7-Zip as Your Default File Archiver
7-Zip is a lightweight yet powerful and efficient free file archiver for Windows-based computers, with it you'll be able to compress files and decompress archives in an easy and effective way. P7zip is essentially the 7-zip archive manager on Linux, except that does not include the graphical interface. P7zip should be able to open RAR files like 7-zip does, but some recently downloaded RAR files can not be opened using p7zip. The RAR file itself is not broken for sure. You can also open RAR files with 7-Zip by right-clicking on them and choosing 7-Zip Open archive from the pop-up context menu.If you're dealing with multipart RAR files (named something like 123.part1.rar, 123.part2.rar, etc.), first select all the different parts of the RAR file and then right-click one of them; from that menu, choose 7-Zip Extract files.

Will 7-zip Open Rar Files
The Options dialog will popup and there you'll find several tabs with parameters and different options.
Let's focus on the first tab: 'System', here you can see a full list of the file types 7-Zip can handle. Check those boxes you want 7-Zip to handle by default or if you want you can click on the 'Select all' button to full selection. What is the current version of safari.

Now click OK and the next time you'll open one of these files 7-Zip will launch.
Sign out of office. The second way is through Windows Explorer, launch it and browse for one archive file of the type you want 7-Zip to handle and right-click on it.
From the popup context menu select Open with → Choose default program.. and from the options available select 7-Zip File Manager.
As you can see in the next screen capture, the file icon changed to 7-Zip's indicating that from now on it will be opened with it by default.
